Two presidents and the Legion...

JFK_and_WJC.jpeg

From our Post Commander:

My daughter posted this famous picture of President Kennedy and future President Bill Clinton.
But a closer look reveals there is more to this picture than a glimpse into the future.
Who are the fellas in funny hats behind JFK?
Zoom in on the emblem on the boys shirts.
Who brought about this encounter?

None other than the American Legion!

America's heroes in Loudoun County

[ Article from the "Senior Living" section of the Loudoun Times-Mirror (Sept 18, 2013) ]

Founded nationally in 1919 by veterans returning from World War I, the American Legion has long been a place for those returning from conflicts abroad to share their experiences and give back to their local communities.

While not exclusively a senior organization, it does remain a popular society for older veterans as a way to reach out to the younger generation returning home from the conflicts in the Middle East.

Loudoun is home to five American Legion posts, each with their own members and priorities.

The Loudoun Times-Mirror sat down with the leadership of the five posts to discuss local veterans, the American Legion and their plans moving forward.

As part of their outreach, the American Legion is well-known for their sponsorship of youth baseball teams.

Posted on Monday, May 28, 2012 1:00 pm, Updated: 2:04 pm by Erika Jacobson Moore

For more than 30 years, people have gathered in Sterling to honor America's fallen soldiers and thank living veterans for their service on Memorial Day. Monday was no exception.

Braving the blazing heat, dozens of people crowded the corner of Holly Avenue and Sterling Boulevard to listen to patriotic music and remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice defending America's freedom in a program put on by the American Legion Post 150 out of Sterling.

Sterling Park Honors Fallen On Memorial Day

Posted on May 30, 2011 by Kara Clark

For the 35th straight year, Sterling Park honored America's fallen soldiers Monday during the annual Memorial Day observance.

American Legion Post 150 hosted the event, held at the Sterling Veterans Memorial located at the corner of Holly Avenue and Sterling Boulevard.

Air Force Lt. Col Bradford N. Norris served as the keynote speaker for the ceremony, which attracted dozens of local residents and veterans who braved the high heat to remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice defending America's freedom.

Norris said Memorial Day was an important day to "maintain perspective" as many regard the holiday as the "beginning or end of a three-day weekend" and not for the true reason Memorial Day was established. The day is not meant to honor those present for today's ceremony, but rather the more than 1 million Americans who have died in combat fighting America's wars since the country was established.

Christmas Dinner Pictures - 2009

Once again, our joint dinner with VFW Post 9478 was a huge success. This year, Santa managed to slip in and out before the photographer go there, so there's no proof that he was actually at the dinner. But all the kids (and a few of the adults) were absolutely sure that the guy in the red suit was Santa, so...

Here's the pictures from the Christmas dinner.
