Help Restore Sterling's American Legion Memorial

Make a donation today!

Our Fellow Americans,

For almost fifty years now, American Legion Post 150, in Sterling, VA, has tended to the memorial at the corner of Sterling Blvd and Holly Ave. This memorial has been essential in celebrating what it means to be an American and has taught countless generations the value of service and dedication.

Next year, 2026, the memorial will celebrate 50 years. That is 50 years of memories and stories. We want to do it right, but to do that we need the community's help. The memorial needs some repair work and maintenance to get it ready for the big celebration. The money raised will go to support repairs to the memorial, plaque work, and to support our efforts in making this celebration bigger and better than ever.

Please consider donating to our cause. Your dollars will help ensure we have the ability to get the memorial in amazing shape and will keep it going for another fifty years. Remember that no matter how small or large the gift, these dollars will go to make a difference at the local level.

Make a donation today!

Thank you for your support!

The Young Dead Soldiers Do Not Speak

THE YOUNG DEAD SOLDIERS DO NOT SPEAK
by Archibald MacLeish

Nevertheless they are heard in the still houses: who has not heard them?

They have a silence that speaks for them at night and when the clock counts.

They say, We were young. We have died. Remember us.

They say, We have done what we could but until it is finished it is not done.

They say, We have given our lives but until it is finished no one can know what our lives gave.

They say, Our deaths are not ours: they are yours: they will mean what you make them.

They say, Whether our lives and our deaths were for peace and a new hope or for nothing we cannot say: it is you who must say this.

They say, We leave you our deaths: give them their meaning: give them an end to the war and a true peace: give them a victory that ends the war and a peace afterwards: give them their meaning.

We were young, they say. We have died. Remember us.
